Tattoo FAQ

What are your rates?

  • Half day (smaller tattoos, 1- 3 hours of tattoo time) - $600

  • Full day (larger tattoos, 4-6 hours) - $1,200 per day

The total cost of your tattoo will vary depending on the size and detail of your design.

- A good way to estimate how long a piece might take is to use (medium sized) hands as a measurement.

- A hand sized piece usually takes a half day session.

- A piece the size of two hands would require a full day, and so forth.
- Large pieces like full sleeves or back pieces take between 5-8 full day sessions depending on detail and background elements.

Price includes:

- Consultation before your appointment and correspondence during the design process

- Design of your tattoo

- Design review on tattoo day

- Stencil and application of tattoo

- Professional photograph of your finished tattoo

- Bandage (recoveryderm bandage available)

- Aftercare instructions

How can I book an appointment?

Booking for 2024 appointments is currently closed.  Books for 2025 appointments open on 9/1/24

  • An inquiry form will be live at the "Booking Form" link when booking periods open

  • I will be in touch via email with everyone who submits an inquiry, even if your project is not selected.

  • I only take on projects that are suited to my strengths and style of tattooing, so please keep in mind that submitting a booking request does not guarantee an appointment.

This is the only way I accept booking inquiries for new projects.  Requests submitted outside of this process will not be considered.

Can I get on your waitlist?

I do not keep a waitlist or cancellation list for new appointments.

Please watch my instagram for updates on when the next booking period begins.

Do you do consultations?
I offer complementary in person consultations only after a project has been submitted during an open booking period, and I've accepted the project.

Consultations are done in person for local clients or over Zoom for clients outside of the Denver metro area and are booked online.

Consultations for pre-drawn designs are not required.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

I take a non refundable deposit to book your appointment which is due at the time of booking (generally during your consultation) and is payable in person or online.  This deposit goes toward the cost of your piece on tattoo day. For multiple day projects your deposit will be applied to the final session.

Projects that are one full day or less - $100 deposit

Projects that are more than one full day - $200 deposit

Do you charge to design my tattoo?

The cost of designing the first draft of your tattoo is included in the half day or full day rate.

Because most tattoos take several hours to design before tattoo day, if you would like extensive changes that require your design to be completely redrawn, there is a $100 charge for additional drawing time.

Will I get to see my design before my appointment?

I do not send design proofs via email prior to appointments.

I build in extra time to each appointment to allow for discussion and small adjustments of your design on tattoo day if needed, which eliminates the time consuming back and forth of emails, and allows you to be part of the process while we finalize your piece of art together.

Can I get a tattoo if I'm not 18 yet?

Sorry, I do not tattoo anyone under the age of 18, even with parent consent.

Are there any tattoos you won't do?

I evaluate design proposals on an individual basis, and generally only take on projects within the subject matter and stylistic realm that I am best suited.   I am not the right artist for every tattoo, so I don't accept every appointment request I receive.  If I feel like your design idea is not something within my toolbox, I will happily help connect you with an artist who might be a better fit.

I will not consider requests for:

  • micro/single needle tattoos

  • designs that include script or lettering

  • tattoos on the face, ear, inside of the finger, or the side/inside of the foot

  • replications of designs created by other artists

  • color tattoos

Do you do coverups?

Yes!

However it's important to know that not all tattoos are good candidates for coverups.

Generally coverups need to be at least three times larger than the original tattoo, require multiple sessions,  and require complete creative freedom with the new design.

If you have a tattoo you'd like to cover, please fill out an inquiry form and email 2-3 photos of your existing tattoo to shannonfaberart@gmail.com so we can discuss the best options for your piece.

Can I use numbing cream?

I am open to clients using numbing cream in certain situations, but I do not recommend it.

Most numbing creams, especially those made specifically for tattoos, contain lidocaine (for pain relief) and epinephrine (to keep the lidocaine localized and make it work longer).  Unfortunately epinephrine also causes the blood vessels on the surface of the skin to constrict, which makes it considerably harder to tattoo that skin.  This can result in a tattoo taking longer and can also cause problems during the healing process.

Another issue with numbing cream is that it wears off.

Especially if you are getting a larger tattoo, it will not last the entire time.

Normally your body produces natural endorphins that help you settle in and cope well with the pain of the tattoo.

If you start a tattoo with numbing cream, the pain doesn’t trigger your body to make those endorphins, so when the numbing wears off, you are actually feeling the full force of the pain which can make the experience a lot more difficult.

If you think numbing cream is an option you would like to pursue for your tattoo, please be sure to talk to me before your appointment.

Please plan to bring numbing cream with you to your appointment as I do not provide it.

DO NOT APPLY NUMBING CREAM AT HOME BEFORE YOUR TATTOO.

Your skin needs to be properly prepared at the shop, and I will apply numbing cream for you.

If you arrive to your appointment with numbing cream on, you will be required to reschedule.

Normally touch ups are complimentary, but the use of numbing cream can create healing variables beyond my control.

If you choose to use numbing cream for your tattoo, touch ups will be billed at my hourly rate.

What is your cancellation policy?

It's ok to reschedule your appointment.  Life happens and tattoos happen when they are meant to.

Please give at least 48 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule.

If you need to reschedule your appointment, you will be offered my next available spot, which may be 3-6 months out as I fill my schedule to capacity during open booking.

Your deposit is valid for rescheduling one time.

If your appointment needs to be rescheduled more than once, your initial deposit will go toward administrative time and a new deposit will be required before a new date can be scheduled.
